VINGT LIEUX DITS
Vingt Lieux Dits was painted over the course of an evening, while a bottle of wine was being consumed.
As the glasses went by, the gestures became less precise, more instinctive. The large red circle captures this gradual loss of balance: the spinning sensation, the shifting perception, that strange feeling of standing perfectly still while everything around you seems to move.
Wine is not only the subject of the work. It becomes part of the painting itself, used in places as a pigment and mixed directly into the paint.
The cold, steady blue contrasts with the unstable red, creating a tension between control and letting go.
Vingt Lieux Dits becomes the trace of an experience rather than the representation of a bottle: the artist does not try to paint intoxication. He lets intoxication paint with him.
